[patches] Re: gawk, mawk, and eglibc

That sounds reasonable. Here is a patch that restricts EGLIBC to gawk.

The one concern I might have:

Has anyone shipped a system where /usr/bin/awk is GNU awk, but there is no gawk command installed? I have this vague recollection that some GNU utilities like to drop the 'g' unless they're installed on a system with other utilities. (e.g., GNU make is "gmake" on BSD, but "make" on Linux.)

... Hmm. Even then, I like this better than the current state, because on such a system, it's quite possible to imagine configure picking up a historical-SysV nawk, or mawk, instead of finding the awk it really wants. Nevermind.

Listen, get this. Nobody, with a good compiler, needs to be justified.
